Nessy Target Assessment and Slosson Oral Reading Test Correlation Case Study

Date: Spring 2019

In spring 2019, a case study of about 30 pupils in Years 3 and 4 at one Bristol primary school found a correlation of 0.82 between the Nessy reading assessment result and the Slosson Oral Reading Test Revision 3 (SORT-R3), a measure of single-word oral reading. The study did not assess spelling, and it does not establish the accuracy of Nessy reading levels or the assessment’s suitability for monitoring progress.
